You can join us In-Person AND Online!
This training is approved for 5 CEUs in Category B from the CMTNL
When first designed, chair yoga was originally created as a modified version of hatha yoga for individuals with health implications and the elderly. Today chair yoga is widely practiced by many individuals.
In the same way that the body moves through flows of motion and increased flexibility during cycles of traditional yoga, chair yoga implements this practice as well. In fact, almost any traditional yoga asana or pose can be replicated and adapted to accommodate chair yoga. Along with increased ranges of motion and strengthening exercises through holding poses on a chair, relaxation techniques and pranayama (also known as breathing techniques) are a popular practice within chair yoga and can assist in reducing stress, and improving overall health and well being.
This two day training will introduce you to Specific Chair Yoga “Groups”
1. Able Body
2. Workplace / School
3. Physical Limitations
It will identify the characteristics of each group to be considered when planning Chair Yoga sequences. You will learn the elements of a class (structure and sequence), what elements would include in each group, breathing and relaxation scripts. Postures will be taught and demonstrated, categorized with an anatomical focus.
Each participant will build their own Sequence and teach it to the other trainees.
Certificate of completion for 15 hours of study in Chair Yoga is available at the end of the two day training.
About the Instructor:
Hi! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Connie Abbass, and I’m a therapeutic yoga teacher.
In 2007 I attended my first yoga class and was immediately hooked. I didn’t have the skill set or understanding at that time of what yoga really was - I just knew it felt great in my body. Once I started practicing regularly, I discovered that yoga was not just asana but a path of self-realization and inner breakthroughs. Day by day, I became stronger, calmer, and braver.
Through a combination of holistic therapeutic techniques, I now help students and clients approach healing through yoga. What started as my own personal sadhana to ease stress and anxiety passionately turned into my commitment to help others live a more healthy and balanced life.
My teaching is enhanced and strengthened by a Masters in Education, 200 hr YTT with Nancy Buckle at Namaste Studios, studies in Yoga Psyche Soul (300 hr) with Ashley Turner, Level 1 I-Rest training with Richard Miller, Restorative and Therapeutic Yoga with Jamie Hanley, and Yin Yoga with Kassandra Reighard.
